Congregations and Beyond – the next steps
I have to say I am simultaneously excited and scared.
As you may have read me posting about before, the Unitarian Universalist Association in in the process of developing a strategic vision to address new realizations about how our culture is changing in relationship to religious community. You can check out a screencast of a prezi that details some of our thinking and next steps>
The excitement part for me is probably obvious: it’s an incredible privilege to work at what feels like the beginning of a huge culture shift in UUism. I’ve been amazed to see how much energy this initiative is creating and how many people are truly interested in what is happening. Even more exciting is to begin to get in touch with all the innovative work that’s happening in “UUdom”. As I keep saying over and over, this work has already been and will truly be a shared ministry with many beyond the UUA staff.
The scary part is that we really don’t know what “it” is yet. I’m usually quite comfortable with this; I even teach and preach the virtues of holding ourselves in creative space without rushing to conclusions or outcomes. But I also know that there are many people out there who are looking for conclusions and outcomes!!
So I am asking for your patience and, even more importantly, your input. On Monday, May 14, we are bringing together representatives from each of the staff groups at the UUA to begin to flesh out our ideas and distribute some of the responsibility. Many of us will be tweeting (follow hashtag #congbeyond) and posting to Facebook (join the group “Unitarian Universalists Exploring Congregations and Beyond”) during the meeting, and we will be asking for your ideas and feedback.
More details to come. Please join us in the conversation.
